Summary of organization
MANUVIKASA is a nongovernmental organization registered in 2003 and this organization is non-political in nature. The vision of the organization is “Development of sustainable livelihood, improve education, enriched environment and development of good human values”.
MANUVIKASA is working in the areas of natural resources conservation, livelihood development and women empowerment. Every year we are harvesting 2455 million litres of water. Conserving and protecting 30000 acres of betta land (community forest). Covered 40000 families under entrepreneurship trainings and financial inclusion activities. We have distributed food kits and other relief materials to 12000 families during nationwide lockdown in Covid pandemic. We have developed 172 large and medium lakes and conserving 1348 million litres of water every year.

Detail description of organization
MANUVIKASA is a nongovernmental organization registered in 2003 and this organization is non-political in nature. This organization has developed by a group of young and educated rural youths with the motto of social transformation and these youths are engaged in different walks of life. The vision of the organization is “Development of sustainable livelihood, improve education, enriched environment and development of good human values”.
MANUVIKASA is working in the areas of natural resources conservation, livelihood development and women empowerment.
MANUVIKASA is developing water harvesting structures and these structures improve the accessibility of the water to the agriculture land and improve the economic condition of the agrarian communities. So far MANUVIKASA has developed 3250 Farm Ponds and springs in 4 Taluqs of Uttara Kannada District and 5418 farmers are covered and more than 8462 acres of agriculture land is benefited. Every year we are harvesting 2455 million litres of water.
MANUVIKASA is developing the capacity of the small land holding farmers to increase the crop production and income by providing inputs on sustainable agriculture, horticulture, fishery, SRI paddy cultivation, pest and diseases management and agriculture-based income generation activities. MANUVIKASA has developed 1250 Self Help Groups and 1500 Joint Liability Groups of farm women and agriculture labours and cultivating the habit of savings and improve income generation activities through capacity building and financial assistance through banks. To provide financial assistance to the SHGs and JLGs, MANUVIKASA has collaborated with Sangamitra, Micrograam, KVG Bank and ICICI Bank.
MANUVIKASA has promoted two subsidiary organizations. One is Pragatimitra Farmers Producer Company, and this company is working with farmers on input supply, introduction of new farming technologies, support mixed and layer cropping, processing of areca, paddy and other major crops, value addition and marketing of the farm produces. Mostly tank beneficiaries are the major shareholders of this company and this company is also providing support for mechanization in farming. Total 890 members are enrolled in this FPC.
Another subsidiary organization of MANUVIKASA is Pragatimitra Souhardha Cooperative and this cooperative serve the financial need of SHG members and farmers to improve income generation activities. This cooperative supports its members on entrepreneurship inputs, interaction meetings involving successful entrepreneurs, guiding on investments and provide loans to the needy micro and small-scale entrepreneurs in groups and individual level. Total 2800 members are enrolled in this cooperative.
This organization is working in Haveri district with special focus on tank development activities. So far 22 tank users’ groups have been formed and trainings and capacity building programmes are provided for the proper use of tank. MANUVIKASA is having prime concern on protection of environment and ensure the benefit of natural resources to all the community. So, it is planting saplings in the waste land and farmers’ field through people participation. So far MANUVIKASA has planted more than 44000 seedlings in Uttara Kannada district. It is focusing on Non-Timber Forest Product seedlings and fruit seedlings for planting.
MANUVIKASA is conserving and protecting 4000 hectors of betta land (community forest) through water conservation, energy efficient choola promotion and plant enrichment. We have helped soft loan to SHG members to construct 91 boiling water energy efficient choolas.
MANUVIKASA is providing clean energy solutions to the villagers especially providing energy efficient cook stove to the villagers. It reduces the usage of firewood and in-house air pollution. With collaboration of Earth Watch, New Delhi, MANUVIKASA has constructed 500 cook stoves in its operational area.
This organization is covering 20000 families under entrepreneurship trainings and financial inclusion activities with the Support of EdelGive Foundation. We have covered 179000 women members under Internet Saathi programme and educated these women on use of smart phones and internet through 256 volunteers to develop livelihood of the rural women. This Internet Saathi programme is implementing in Uttara Kannada and Udupi Districts with the Support of TATA Trust, Google and Voice Foundation. We have collaborated with NABARD to develop producers’ organization and Joint Liability Groups. We have constructed Rural Haat with NABARD support.
We have distributed food kits and other relief materials to 10000 families during Nation wide lockdown in Covid pendemic and supported Government departments for vaccination drive covering 50000 members with the support of Azim Premji Foundation, Dalyan Foundation, Vattikuti India Foundation, EdelGive Foundation and Give India.
Deshpande Foundation is supporting our organization since 2013 for water conservation and livelihood development. NABARD is supporting our organization since 2014 for formation of Joint Liability Groups, formation of FPO, construction of Rural Haat and digitization of Self Help Groups. HDB Financial Services Limited is supporting our organization since September-2017 for construction of farm ponds and lake rejuvenation. Give India is supporting our organization since 2010 for water conservation and education support. UNDP GEF SGP is also supporting us since 2013 and financial support is closed but non-financial support is continued. We have completed a project with EdelGive Foundation for livelihood development and entrepreneurship development among 6000 women in 03 years and now another 03 years project has been started to develop livelihood and skills among10000 women. We are developing the livelihood through skills and producers’ organization among 1000 Siddi tribes households at Yellaput block of Uttara Kannada District and 1000 fisherman community households in Kundapur Block of Udupi District with the support of HDFC Bank Parivartan. Recently we are selected for GROW fund hosted by EdelGive Foundation and got sanctioned a grant amount of Rs. 80 Lakhs for organization development.
We have developed 172 large and medium lakes and conserving 1348 million litres of water every year and helped 4945 farmers and irrigated 17231 acres of land. Coca Cola Foundation, HDBFS, Azim Premji Foundation, EdelGive Foundation, CMS Infosystems Pt. Ltd. CAPCO and Yes Foundation are supporting our initiatives.
We are aiming to develop livelihood of one lakh women in next 05 years and rejuvenate 1000 lakes.
